Main Ingredients

Thin beef patty (80/20 ground beef, smashed thin on griddle)
Soft burger bun (potato or brioche style)
American or cheddar cheese slice
Caramelized onions (or raw thinly sliced)
Pickles (dill slices)
Lettuce (shredded or leaf)
Special smashed burger sauce (mayo + ketchup + mustard + relish + spices)
Seasonings: salt, black pepper, garlic powder

How It's Made

  1. 1

Heat a heavy cast-iron griddle or skillet until very hot.

  2. 2

Take a loose ball of ground beef (about 120-150g), place on griddle and immediately smash it very thin with a burger press or heavy spatula.

  3. 3

Season the top generously with salt and pepper while cooking.

  4. 4

After 1-2 minutes when edges are crispy and brown, flip the patty.

  5. 5

Place cheese slice on top and let it melt while the other side cooks (another 1 minute).

  6. 6

Toast the buns on the griddle with a little butter.

  7. 7

Assemble: Spread special sauce on bottom bun, add shredded lettuce, smashed cheesy patty, caramelized onions, pickles, and top bun.

  8. 8

Serve immediately while the edges are still crispy.
